Porsche Boxster Generations

The Porsche Boxster is a future classic, it's one of the best handling sports cars ever created. Its a two seater mid-engine convertible that has been in production since 1996.

There are four main Porsche Boxster Generations

• 986 Boxster - 1996 - 2004
• 987 Boxster - 2005 - 2012
• 981 Boxster - 2012 - 2016
• 718 Boxster - 2016 - Present day

The first generation Porsche Boxster was the 986, launched back in 1997 followed by the boxster S in 1999.

The second generation Porsche Boxster was the 987, launched back in 2005, it shared 20% with the 986, but revised headlights and overall improvements to design gave this generation a modern look.

The third generation Porsche Boxster was the 981, launched back in 2012, lighter, more muscular, more striking and more economical.

The 4th generation Porsche Boxster was the 718, launched back in 2016. Controversially the launch cars were equipped with turbo engines, but later in the life cycle the naturally aspirated engines returned.
